AI in Our Audio and Video Products: Innovation with Trust

Executive Summary
Artificial Intelligence (AI) represents the next major evolution in our audio and video technology portfolio. By applying advanced deep-learning–based signal processing, we design products to deliver clearer audio, smarter video behavior, and a more effortless user experience than ever before. At the same time, we understand that many customers have understandable concerns about AI—particularly around data privacy, intellectual property (IP), and the confidentiality of conversations.
This whitepaper explains what we mean by AI, how we use it, and—just as importantly—what we do not do. Our approach is built on a simple principle: deliver high performance outcomes without compromising customer privacy or trust.
Why AI, and Why Now?
Audio and video environments are inherently complex. Background noise, room acoustics, multiple speakers, camera framing, and changing conditions all affect meeting quality. Traditional rule-based signal processing has limits in these environments.
AI—specifically deep learning—can enable our products to:
- Assess the audio and visual environment in real time
- Detect patterns such as speech, noise, and spatial cues
- Make intelligent adjustments to help optimize output quality
- Improve performance beyond what hand-tuned algorithms alone can achieve
This is not a marketing label. Audio signal processing using deep neural networks is unequivocally AI. These systems learn from large datasets and generalize that learning to new environments without being explicitly programmed for each scenario.
What We Mean by AI in Our Products
The AI used in our audio and video products is focused on signal processing and perception, not on interpreting the meaning of conversations or inferring human intent.
In practical terms, our AI models are designed to:
- Operate on audio and video signal characteristics, not on the meaning of conversations
- Identify acoustic and visual patterns (e.g., speech vs. noise, speaker location, room characteristics)
- Enhance signals to improve clarity, intelligibility, and framing
These models are trained offline during development and then embedded into the product. While products are in use, the models are not designed to actively learn or train on any signals or information or to learn from or adapt based on customer conversations or visual depictions.
What We Are Not Doing
We want to be explicit about what our AI is not designed do:
- No off-platform processing: by default, audio and video data is not sent to external cloud services for AI analysis unless a customer explicitly enables and opts-in to such a feature.
- No speech content analysis: our AI features are not designed to analyze, interpret, or store the meaning of spoken words.
- No conversation monitoring: Shure does not monitor, review or use for surveillance contents of customer conversations.
Our AI analyzes low level signal characteristics and does not interpret content, meaning, intent, or identity.
Data Privacy and Security by Design
Privacy and security are foundational to our product design process, not afterthoughts. Our approach aligns with established secure development lifecycle practices already documented in our broader security and privacy materials.
Key guiding principles include:
- On device processing wherever possible
- Data minimization: only the information required to perform signal enhancement is processed
- No persistent storage of customer audio or video by default
These principles help ensure that AI-driven improvements do not introduce new privacy risks.
Transparency and Customer Control
We believe customers should understand and control how technology operates in their environments. To that end, we strive to ensure that:
- AI features are documented clearly in product materials
- Cloud connected AI capabilities, where offered, are opt-in
Privacy and security documentation is publicly available and updated as products and features evolve. Our goal is to remove uncertainty and replace it with clarity and confidence.
AI as an Evolution, Not a Departure
AI is not a departure from our values—it is a continuation of them. For decades, we have focused on delivering professional-grade audio and now video through engineering excellence. AI helps us extend that legacy:
- To better perform in real world environments
- To simplify deployment and configuration
- To provide more consistent, reliable user experiences
All while maintaining the same commitment to privacy, security, and customer trust that our users expect.
Conclusion
AI-driven audio and video signal processing enables us to deliver the best experience possible in increasingly complex environments. We are excited about this next evolution of our products, and we are equally committed to advancing innovation while maintaining strong protections for privacy and IP.
Our promise is straightforward: powerful AI, responsibly designed, transparently explained, and designed to give customers control.
