Niles, IL, October 24, 2016—Located adjacent to the world-famous Music Row just two miles from downtown Nashville, Tenn., Belmont University brings together the best of liberal arts and professional education in a Christian community. The University’s Mike Curb College of Entertainment & Music Business is renowned and recognized as an established leader in music and recording industry education. In fact, Billboard Magazine named the Curb College one of the “Top 10 Music Business Schools” in the U.S. With a rich music education background, Belmont University naturally turned to Shure when it decided to upgrade its audio equipment. Scott Munsell, Belmont’s Lecturer of Audio Engineering Technology, chose to install Shure ULX-D® Digital Wireless with handheld transmitters to optimize the school’s learning environment and equip performance venues with a rock-solid wireless system.

Scott and his team selected ULX-D for a number of intended uses. Of note, they wanted a system that they could use for instruction in the classroom, the university’s showcase concert series tryout productions, and for other concert productions carried out by student production teams. ULX-D met each of these requirements. Offering uncompromised audio quality and RF signal stability, ULX-D provides students and sound engineers with the control needed to manage musical showcases of all calibers. Additionally, the receivers’ Dante™ digital networking integrated seamlessly into the University’s Dante equipment and workshops as well in other facilities on campus. Shure Wireless Workbench® software not only served as an outstanding teaching tool for a number of classes, it also provided live scans to help discern what channels were in use or available.

“There is no question that Belmont has a rich musical and recording education program, and we knew we wanted a system that carried that same sort of history and legendary performance; that’s one of the main reasons we opted for the Shure gear,” said Munsell. “We’ve been so pleased with the system to date. Both the teaching and learning capabilities are expansive. Given ULX-D’s rock solid performance, we’ve even used it in the school’s Columbia Studio A, a historic recording studio on campus. Between the incredible ease of use, efficiency, and learning capabilities of the system, we couldn’t be more pleased with our choice.”

The value proposition to the students at the University’s Mike Curb College of Entertainment & Music Business creates an even more lucrative learning environment. The ease of use and operation enabled students to quickly grasp the system’s functionalities for even more advanced operations and applications. By opting for ULX-D and Wireless Workbench, Munsell and his team are able to ensure seamless audio transmission from the rack, no matter where it is used.

“We regularly use the unit to educate students on Shure’s Wireless Workbench,” said Munsell. “We feel it is important for our students to have access to equipment like the Shure WWB and ULX-D so they can get that ‘hands on’ experience that is so vital to successful application of RF technology in their future careers.”
