Key Takeaways

  • Rapid growth pushed Universidad Anáhuac Puebla to adopt hybrid learning, which required a modernization of classroom audio and AV technology.
  • Poor audio clarity and complex AV systems limited interaction and teaching flexibility, creating challenges for both students and instructors.
  • The university implemented Shure’s Microflex Ecosystem, integrating microphones, audio processing, and loudspeakers into a single, networked system across classrooms.
  • This enabled automated, easy-to-use learning spaces with full-room audio coverage and seamless AV integration, resulting in clear, consistent audio, improved collaboration, and a more effective hybrid learning experience.

History

Universidad Anáhuac Puebla (Anáhuac Puebla University) has grown from a small higher education institution in the LATAM region into a medium-sized university in just a few years. This expansion created a need for a hybrid teaching model that combines in-person learning with virtual education while ensuring quality and continuity.

The university launched a project to update its audio system, with the goal of transforming classrooms and academic spaces into environments capable of meeting the needs of today’s students. This technological transformation found a key partner in Shure’s audio solutions and their seamless integration with third-party software and hardware. As a result, the university was able to create a complete audiovisual ecosystem that enhances communication and collaboration in hybrid environments, aligning with the demands of modern education.

The Challenge: Enabling Hybrid Learning at Scale

Universidad Anáhuac Puebla was facing several specific challenges. Interaction between in-person and remote students was limited by inconsistent audio clarity, while teachers were unable to move freely for fear of losing voice pickup quality. The complexity of operating multiple audio, video, and control devices added to the challenge, highlighting the need for an integrated system that was easy to use.

We were facing problems with intelligibility, message clarity, and seamless collaboration. That led us to begin searching for a solution.

Fernando Vega González, Systems and Technology Director at Universidad Anáhuac Puebla

The challenge was to transform traditional classrooms into intelligent, collaborative spaces that could support the demands of a hybrid teaching model.

The Solution: Deploying the Microflex Ecosystem

Universidad Anáhuac Puebla designed and implemented a project that transformed its classrooms into hybrid, automated learning environments, supported by the digital expertise of the Center for Teacher Training and Development and Educational Technology. This created collaborative spaces where audio, video, and control systems work together seamlessly, enabling simple operation for both teachers and students.

Julián Sánchez, Market Development Specialist at Shure, explained - "At Universidad Anáhuac Puebla, we implemented the Microflex Ecosystem, an integrated professional audio solution that combines microphones, audio processing, and loudspeakers.",  It is a digital solution that allows audio, control, and power to be delivered over the network. It also supports firmware updates for future improvements and full interoperability with major video collaboration platforms.

The project included the installation of Shure MXA920 microphones, which enabled accurate voice capture for teachers and students throughout the classroom. In addition, Shure MXN5-C loudspeakers were selected to deliver clear audio in rooms of different sizes. Audio processing was supported by the Shure ANIUSB-MATRIX and IntelliMix P300, ensuring effective signal management and active noise reduction.

Shure’s ability to integrate with third-party software and hardware made it possible to build a complete audiovisual ecosystem. Thanks to this interoperability, the university incorporated camera systems, automation platforms, and infrastructure solutions that work together to support academic activities. Spaces such as Classroom 360, the Smart Room E4, the Gregorio el Palafox classroom, and the Type 5203 classrooms were equipped with full-room voice coverage, active noise reduction, and multi-device connectivity. Some learning environments also incorporated features such as voice-tracking cameras and automatic mute functionality.

The Results: Improved Audio and Classroom Experience for All

In Classroom 360, the Shure system now allows the teacher to forget about the technology and focus solely on teaching. Before, they had to worry about connectivity, lost time at the start of each session, and noise from the surrounding environment.

Today, thanks to noise cancellation and a comprehensive system design, they only need to turn on the lights and begin class.

Carlos Miguel Ramos Linares, Smart Room Coordinator at Universidad Anáhuac Puebla.

Clear and consistent audio is essential for effective hybrid learning environments.

By adopting Shure’s professional audio systems in classrooms across campus, the university has strengthened its hybrid teaching model to effectively meet the needs of its academic community. Automated classrooms and academic spaces now provide optimal conditions for interaction between in-person and remote students while consistently delivering clear audio.

Alma Belén Hernández González, a master’s student in Strategy and Management at Universidad Anáhuac Puebla, emphasized, "I no longer have to worry about where I sit, because now I know I’ll be able to hear clearly, thanks to the new classroom technology."

Implementing Shure solutions at Universidad Anáhuac Puebla has positioned the university as a technology leader in Mexico and Latin America. With clear, intelligible audio, its classrooms deliver a seamless experience for students, teachers, and operators, enhancing the learning process and reinforcing its standing among forward-thinking universities.
