Celebrating Women in Technology Series: Shure Hosts Panel of Top Female Studio Recording Professionals

October 29, 2026

NILES, IL, October 29, 2026 — Shure hosted a panel of leading female recording studio professionals as part of the sixth installment of its Celebrating Women in Technology series. Hosted by Shure President and CEO Chris Schyvinck, the livestreamed discussion explored career paths in audio, the importance of mentorship and representation, and the realities of balancing parenthood with a profession in the studio.

The panelists included:

  • Sharon Corbitt – 40-year Music Row veteran with deep experience in studio management, preservation, artist relations, and music advocacy.
  • Alix Ewald – Paris-based recording and mix engineer, artistic director, and sound professional whose work spans classical, film, television, and contemporary music productions.
  • Emily Lazar – Grammy Award-winning mastering engineer, founder of The Lodge, and a pioneer in stem mastering and immersive audio.
  • Tina Morris – Studio Manager of The Village Studios in Los Angeles, one of the world's most celebrated recording destinations.
  • Petra Randewijk – Dutch sound engineer specializing in both live and studio audio production with more than two decades of experience.

Schyvinck led the 90-minute discussion, which spanned how they each became interested in their careers, the challenges they’ve faced, and advice they have for the next generation.

“These panels showcase women who, on one hand, have arrived at their current roles through fierce grit and determination. Yet, on the other hand, they demonstrate strong caring and compassion for others in their orbit,” said Schyvinck. “It is beyond humbling to hear how they have navigated their journeys. They are role models for others who might want to consider a similar path.”

Highlights from the discussion include:

Sharon Corbitt on the importance of mentorship:
“I stand on the shoulders of incredible women who helped me get where I am. That is why I believe so strongly in mentoring, supporting, and creating space for the next generation to thrive.”

Alix Ewald on facing challenges in the industry:
“Try everything you can, and don’t be afraid to take on something that feels just beyond your reach. Sometimes accepting the challenge, learning through the process, and finding your way forward is how you grow.”

Emily Lazar on the importance of representation:
“If you can see it, you can be it. We need more women and underrepresented creators in the rooms where creative decisions are being made, because without those voices, we’re missing out on incredible art, perspective, and possibility.”

Tina Morris on creating a positive working environment:
“My goal when I started managing was to become the boss I always felt like I needed — someone who leads with empathy, supports people as whole human beings, and creates a space where everyone can do their best work.”

Petra Randewijk on embracing any opportunity:
“Don’t wait for the perfect opportunity to appear. Find the spaces where you can learn, record, create and build the experience you need — because sometimes the path forward is the one you make yourself.”
