Mapfre Tower in Mexico Outfitted With Shure Microflex™ Wireless

November, 26 2014 |

MIAMI, Fla., Nov. 26, 2014—As a multinational insurance company based in Mexico, MAPFRE was founded in 2002 and has experienced steady growth throughout the region. MAPRE is headquartered in a tower building, reaching 407 feet high, with 27 floors and five underground levels. The company turned to Shure to outfit two important areas within the tower with wireless audio technology—its auditorium hosting conferences of up to 150 people and a private executive conference room. To address a wide variety of needs, including overcoming Mexico’s RF problems, easy installation and reliability, Shure Microflex™ Wireless was selected for the job.

From the start, MAPFRE requested a reliable, high-performance wireless system that company employees could operate without assistance from a dedicated IT staff member. To allow for ease-of-use, rechargeablity was a core factor as well asassurance that the system would operate without delivery issues. The elegant Microflex Wireless solution—with lifelike sound, networked controls, a versatile microphone selection, and easy installation—proved perfect for the MAPFRE conferencing environments

“We helped Alta Tecnología Corporativa y Residencial (LUMBRA), a leading provider of A/V installation and integration solutions, to select Shure Microflex Wireless for MAPFRE because of its installation versatility. The gear required very few antennas to secure a strong signal from all microphones and it runs off of the UTP cables already installed throughout the MAPFRE auditorium,” said Manuel Tapia, Engineering and Project Manager at Representaciones de Audio, S.A. de C.V. “Another key reason for selecting Microflex Wireless was Shure’s rechargeable batteries, docking station, and USB chargers. At the MAPFRE Tower there are events that many times last all day, requiring uninterrupted battery life.”

MAPFRE Tower auditorium is operating with three MXWAPT8 Access Point Transmitters and one four-channel MXWAPTA Access Point Transceiver to assign clean frequencies to wireless microphone transmitters. There are four MXW8 Gooseneck Microphone Base Transmitters on stage and 20 MXW6/C Boundary Wireless Microphones Transmitters distributed throughout the audience seating for questions. For presenters who need to move around the stage, four MXW1 Hybrid Bodypack Transmitters with internal microphones are available. There are also two ULX-D® Digital Wireless Systems with a MX153 Earset Headworn Microphone and a MX150 Subminiature Lavalier Microphone to suit presenter preferences.

With a smaller set up, the conference room—used for high-profile executive meetings—has one MXWAPT8 Access Point Transmitter located in the room’s drop celling and one MXWAPTA Access Point Transceiver to compliment the transmitter. There are two MXWNCS8 Networked Charging Stations that deliver nine hours of continuous use to transmitters, while enabling remote status monitoring in the charger and displaying remaining runtime in hours and minutes. For clear dialogue between meeting attendees, 10 MXW8 Gooseneck Microphone Base Transmitters complete the audio setup.

With Mexico currently transitioning to HDTV, dealing with analog and digital TV channels simultaneously, and the 700MHz band being licensed to communication services, the RF landscape was of utmost concern in selecting audio equipment for MAPFRE. Selected to combat these issues, Microflex Wireless’ automated frequency coordination prevents unexpected interference. The system can actively scan the available spectrum and coordinate clean, compatible frequencies for every microphone channel. Furthermore, Dante™ networking conveniently transports low-latency, uncompressed audio over standard Ethernet networks.
