Santa Clara University Refreshes Graduate School of Business Classrooms with Shure Microflex® Advance™

As a leading higher learning institution in the heart of Silicon Valley, it was imperative to leverage the most up-to- date lecture recording technology as students increasingly rely on remote learning and recorded lectures to stayahead in today’s connected learning environments.
SCU installed the Shure Microflex®AdvanceTM MXA910 Ceiling Arraymicrophones because they are the absolute best solution for large classroom environments, providing a seamless experience for teachers and students.
This installation removed the requirement to equip lecturers and lecture halls with microphones before class or an event. The university also uses the microphone arrays gating to trigger camera presets that direct the camera to the location of the presenter.
Santa Clara University (SCU) is a top ranking, private, non-profit Jesuit university located inSanta Clara, California with roughly 5,385 enrolled undergraduates. Lucas Hall, SCU’sSchool of Business building, was originally built in 2008 and needed a refresh to meet the current demand for remote learning and lecture recording that modern students and professors rely on. As such, the university tasked Avidex, a leading audio visual and technology integration company, to identify a new microphone array that would easily provideflawless recorded lectures, leading them to Shure’s Microflex Advance array solutions.

With Microflex Advance, two ceiling array microphones cover an entire lecture hall or multipurpose room, removing the requirement to equip lecturers and lecture halls with microphones before class or an event. The university also uses the microphone arrays gating to trigger camera presets that direct the camera to the location of the presenter. This solution provides a seamless experience for students and teachers alike. After being one of the first customers to install the Shure Microflex Advance ceiling array microphones, SCU hopes to integrate them into other renovation projects, including the STEM complex.
The Shure Microflex® AdvanceTM MXA910 Ceiling Array microphones are currently beingleveraged in 12 classrooms and one multipurpose room in SCU’s Lucas Hall. The MXA910sare premium networked array microphones that capture best-in-class audio with Shureproprietary Steerable CoverageTM technology, enabling up to eight lobes that are configurable in three dimensions.
