Webster model SS667

Date Updated: October 10, 2018 FAQ #5485
Question:
Did Shure make an OEM version of the Model 55S for Webster Electric Company of Racine, Wisconsin?
Answer:

Yes. The Webster model number was SS667. Webster purchased this OEM microphone from Shure in the late 1950s and early 1960s. The mic was packaged with specific Webster tape recorders and other products.

The only difference between the Webster SS667 and a Shure 55S was the metal nameplate adhered to the lower portion of the microphone. The nameplate listed the SS667 model number, the Webster name and logo, and a serial number, e.g. 6045. 6045 meant the mic was manufactured in 1960 during the 45th week.
