How to assign static IP address to MXWNCS

Date Updated: August 1, 2019 FAQ #5887
Question:
I'm trying to set the IP address of an MXWNCS8. I already set the IP address for the MXWAPT8, but I can't figure out how to set the IP on the charger.
Answer:

Here is the procedure for assigning a static IP address to a new or recently reset MXWNCS which is connected to a network without a DHCP server.

  1. Connect to the desired MXWAPT, and configure the unit for a DHCP address (under Utility>Edit Device)
  2. Click "Add Updates" and then "Apply All" at the top of the screen. The MXWAPT will reboot.
  3. Change the PC to use an Automatic (DHCP) address. It should receive an address beginning with 169.254.x.x.
  4. Log in to the MXWAPT with the new IP address (Shure Web Device Discovery should find it).
  5. Go to Utility, and Edit the device properties for the MXWNCS in question. Change it to Manual (Static) and assign the correct IP Address and Subnet Mask.
    • If you cannot edit the settings, verify that the firmware version matches the MXWAPT. If it does not match, update both devices now with Shure Update Utility.
  6. Edit the MXWAPT back to its own static IP Address.
  7. Click "Apply All" at the top of the screen. The MXWNCS and MXWAPT will reboot.
  8. Log in to the MXWAPT with the new IP address (Shure Web Device Discovery should find it).
  9. Under Configuration, assign the MXWNCS under NCS A (or NCS B, if this is where it should go).
  10. If needed, drop the desired mics in to the charger. Click the Link button to the left of the name of the NCS in the web GUI. Select All Primary, and click Link. The mics should successfully link.
