Stem Speaker Product Safety Advisory 

Model: SPEAKER1 

This Product Safety Advisory applies to Stem Speaker units that were purchased from Shure or Stem Audio before November 30, 2022, and installed in a ceiling grid or ceiling tile without a safety cable attaching the speaker to a solid structure in the ceiling.

This Product Advisory does NOT apply to Stem Speaker units that (i) are wall-mounted or table-mounted, (ii) were purchased from Shure after November 30, 2022, or (iii) were installed in a ceiling grid or ceiling tile with a safety cable that attaches the speaker to the ceiling.

Affected Products

Stem Speaker units that were purchased from Shure or Stem Audio before November 30, 2022, and installed in a ceiling grid or ceiling tile without a safety cable attaching the speaker to a solid structure in the ceiling.

Please note that only speakers installed in a ceiling grid or ceiling tile configuration are affected; speakers that are table-mounted or wall-mounted are not affected and no action is needed.

sharp_warning_amber_black_48dp.webpHazard Under certain conditions where an affected Stem Speaker is installed in a ceiling grid or ceiling tile without a safety cable, the mounting flanges may break due to excess torque during installation causing the speaker to fall, which could result in personal injury and/or property damage. Shure has received two reports of falling speakers. No injuries have been reported.

Solution  

Shure will provide a free replacement mounting kit that includes replacement mounting flanges, a safety cable, and installation instructions. 

What Should You Do? 

If you purchased a Stem Speaker unit or have a Stem Speaker unit that was purchased from Shure before November 30, 2022, or if you are unsure when the unit was purchased from Shure, please take action as soon as possible according to the following options: 

For any affected Stem Speaker that has been installed in a ceiling grid or ceiling tile: 

  1. Determine if the Stem Speaker unit has been installed with or without a safety cable that attaches the unit to a solid structure in the ceiling. If you need assistance, please contact Shure Customer Happiness (see contact information above). 
  2. If the speaker was installed without a safety cable attached to a solid structure in the ceiling, contact Shure as soon as possible to receive a free replacement mounting kit and uninstall the speaker. The free replacement mounting kit will include replacement mounting flanges, a safety cable, and reinstallation instructions. 
  3. Reinstall the speaker according to the instructions that are included in the kit. The instructions are also available here: Stem Speaker Flange Replacement and Tether Installation Guide

For any Stem Speaker that has not been installed or is still in inventory:

If you are:   Take action as follows: 
 An end user or end customer Please contact Shure Customer Happiness as soon as possible to receive a free replacement mounting kit. See contact information above.
 An installer, reseller, dealer, distributor or other direct customer of Shure in the U.S., Germany, Austria, Switzerland, U.K., Netherlands, Belgium, Luxemburg, Australia, Hong Kong, and Japan Please return the affected Stem Speaker units back to your Shure RDC or distribution hub and we will replace them with new units that include an updated mounting hardware kit. Alternatively, please contact Shure Customer Happiness at the contact information above. 
 An installer, reseller, dealer, distributor or other customer in any other country Please contact Shure Customer Happiness as soon as possible to receive a free replacement mounting kit. See contact information above.
