Shure DIS Systems Deliver Advanced Conferencing Solutions for Government Bodies across India

Bangalore, March 2015 - Located in the Vidhana Soudha – the seat of the state government of Karnataka and defining landmark of the IT capital of India, Bengaluru (Bangalore) – the Karnataka Legislative Council is part of the local legislature and charged with promoting the welfare of the Karnataka state. The council meets frequently to make critical decisions and implement new policies for the benefit of the state and its people.

Requiring a comprehensive meeting solution that could facilitate discussions and decision-making in the 104-seat council hall, the Vidhana Soudha in-house tech team recently turned to Sun Infonet, Shure authorized distributor in India, to implement a system overhaul. After examining the council’s audio requirements and meeting needs, Sun Infonet opted for Shure DIS solutions, installing the DCS 6000 Digital Conference System.

“We have had continuous success and received great feedback on the Shure DIS solutions from other government bodies throughout the country and knew it was the right fit for the Karnataka Legislative Council Hall,” said Mr. K. C. Pant, Assistant Technical Manager at Sun Infonet.

The team at the Vidhana Soudha was looking for flush-mounted shotgun gooseneck microphones that would allow a greater distance from the user, while being elegant in appearance to blend into the design of the historic council hall. Besides the microphone application and design aesthetics, the council further required modern, advanced meeting functionalities like an integrated chip card reader for delegate identification and voting capabilities on each conference unit, as well as agenda handling. Other requirements included language interpretation, encryption for secure audio transmission, and audio recording and transcription. The council also requested to add its government logo on every conference unit.

The DCS 6000 is a powerful, scalable, and flexible solution that easily addresses all these requirements, allowing large legislative meetings to be managed with complete control and reliability. With extensive, customizable hardware and software options, and expanded functionality via add-on SW 6000 Conference Management Software, the solution conforms to the most specific needs or protocols of government entities. The system connection via standard Ethernet cables also ensures ease of installation and maintenance, and further enables seamless integration with the existing on-site IT infrastructure allowing simple central control of the entire solution.

“In addition to the conference system setup, the Karnataka Legislative Council Chamber also needed a camera tracking system so that every delegate and media representative in the hall could see who was speaking at any time” comments Mr. Pant. “The CCS 7800 Camera Control System is a great product within the DIS series and fulfills this requirement by seamlessly tracking microphone activation.”

The CCS 7800 is a video-follow-audio camera tracking system that automatically focuses on the delegate who is currently speaking and is compatible with both the DIS DDS 5900 and DCS 6000 series. It can handle up to 4 cameras, each able to be programmed with 400 different camera positions, covering a total of up to 1,600 seats. The video image can then be displayed on a large screen, or used for streaming or recording purposes.

“After we had successfully carried out an installation at Suvarna Soudha in 2013, we were asked to also implement the system facelift at Vidhana Soudha late last year,” said Mr. H.D. Joshi, Senior Technician at Sun Infonet. “The Shure DIS DCS 6000 system was selected over competitors for its great performance, functionality and simple operation, as well as its customization feature. The best-in-class customer support and service from Shure also stood out over the competition.”

Further to the system overhaul at the Karnataka Legislative Council hall, Sun Infonet was also brought in by the government-operated City Convention Centre in Imphal, Manipur, to provide an integrated audio and conferencing solution for its new main auditorium.

After having seen an impressive demonstration of the DIS system and its wide-ranging capabilities, the decision-makers at the City Convention Centre knew that the user-friendly DCS 6000 was the right fit for their venue and could stand up to its many event challenges. The project involved the installation of over 470 flush-mount conference units with integrated language interpretation system for multiple language support. An automatic camera tracking system was also installed to broadcast video imagery of the speakers.

Besides the Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru and the City Convention Center in Imphal, Sun Infonet – along with its trusted integrators – has also recently been awarded several other project tenders released by government institutions in the Odisha state, working closely with the clients to design system upgrades and implement comprehensive conferencing solutions. State government bodies like the Public Works Department, located at the Nirmana Soudha, the Election Commission of the Department of Information & Public Relations, and Odisha Secretariat in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, now rely on the DDS 59000 Digital Discussion System as a modern public address solution for their conference halls.

Mr. Pant added, “We are pleased to serve as a DIS distributor in India and look forward to offering our continued service and support to government organizations across the country.”
