Shure DIS Conferencing Solutions Support 35th ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA)

Vientiane, September 2014 - For 35 years, the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) has served as a forum for members to gather and promote peace, stability, and sustainable development in the Southeast Asia region and around the world. The 2014 conference was hosted in Vientiane, Lao PDR and welcomed more than 800 attendees, including delegates from AIPA member countries Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam; partners, observers, and many other guests. The week-long event featured various panels, discussions, and breakout sessions. To ensure flawless audio management and execution at the conference, T-MICE Service Co., Ltd., a professional rental company based in Thailand, was tapped to install equipment that could support the large-scale meeting and deliver sound in multiple languages.

T-MICE has a proven track record for overseeing large conferences and has handled events that include the ASEAN Summit, ASEAN Foreign Ministers Meetings, ASEAN Economic Ministers Meetings, and more. This experience, coupled with their knowledge of Shure Discussion and Conferencing Systems, landed T-MICE the project. To address AIPA’s audio demands, T-MICE turned to Shure DIS Conferencing Solutions.

”The 35th AIPA general meeting presented a number of audio challenges and we knew the Shure DIS systems were the solution needed for the job,” said Mr. Papon Wanitchapiwong, Vice Managing Director, T-MICE. “The seven-day conference took place at two separate meeting venues and required quality gear that could guarantee impeccable audio, while allowing our technicians to centrally control and manage the entire system. Additionally, we needed a sophisticated solution that supported language interpretation for attendees from many different countries. The DCS 6000 Digital Conference System from Shure allowed us to address all these project demands.”

Powerful, scalable and flexible, DCS 6000 enables large meetings to be managed with complete control and reliability. With comprehensive hardware and software options, the solution can conform to the most specific needs or protocols of any group or organization, from regional councils to a global platform such as the AIPA. At the 35th AIPA’s main meeting venue and breakout session rooms, T-MICE installed 250 DIS Portable Conference Units for sound reinforcement, which could be configured as delegate or chairman version as needed. The individual units in each venue were linked via DCS-LAN connection and connected to a central unit, a system controller which can be accessed via a web browser interface and allows the audio technicians to setup the system and operational parameters.

In order to overcome language barriers and ensure that all attendees could follow the ongoing discussions, 50 portable IS6132 P Interpreter Units were installed for simultaneous interpretation during the conferences. The interpreter booths were mostly situated inside the meeting rooms, however due to limited space especially in the rooms used for breakout sessions, T-MICE placed the booths in hallways outside and installed a CCTV system to provide interpreters with a live feed of the meeting rooms.

Utilizing the DCS 6000 Digital Infrared Wireless System, the interpreted audio was distributed to a total of 550 units of DR 6032 Digital Receivers which were accessible by the audience members at all meeting venues, and allowed them to listen to speeches in their preferred language.

“The DIS DCS 6000 Conference Systems as well as Simultaneous Interpretation Systems worked extremely well throughout the whole meeting, and we encountered zero mistakes, neither technological nor human,” commented Mr. Papon.

The SW 6000 Conference Management Software, an add-on to DCS 6000, was a helpful feature that allowed T-MICE to configure, control and manage the system units and audio for the AIPA conference from a central technician’s desk.

“This software not only ensured smooth and error-free operation of the entire DIS equipment, but also showcased the reliability of the whole solution, ultimately delivering satisfactory results for both T-MICE and the AIPA organizers,” added Mr. Papon.

”The professional Shure DIS Conferencing Solutions and comprehensive system strategy – coupled with our experience and skilled team – resulted in a well-executed, world-class event. This project has again earned us a lot of confidence and credibility and we are pleased that our clients feel confident in turning to Shure DIS systems and T-MICE to deliver important regional and international events.”
