Wireless mic RF spectrum loss or gain after DTV transition?

FAQ #3536 Updated February 19, 2009

Question:

Will wireless mics lose or gain spectrum after the DTV transition?

Answer:

Available spectrum for Wireless Microphones

This chart shows the available spectrum for wireless microphones before and after the end of the DTV transition in the top 200 markets. Some TV stations are terminating their analog transmission on February 17th and some are terminating their analog transmission on June 12th.

City - The television market.
Available for mics before Feb 2009 - Adds up the amount of spectrum between TV 14 and TV 69 that has been available for wireless microphones to use.
Available for mics after June 2009 - Adds up the amount of spectrum between TV14 and TV51 that will be available for wireless microphones to use.
Bandwith between ... - White Space Devices are not allowed to use spectrum that is adjacent to DTV signals in the TV 14-20 range. Adds up the amount of spectrum between TV 14 and TV 20 that is protected space for wireless microphones after June 2009. A handful of the largest cities will also receive 12 MHz of protected spectrum near TV 37.
