Which phono cartridge will fit my turntable?
Matching a cartridge to a turntable requires: 1) The tone arm mounting method for the cartridge; 2) The tone arm tracking force range.
95% of the time the cartridge mount will be one of two types:
1) Standard Mount - by far the most common
Two screws, half an inch apart, thread through the cartridge body to secure it to the headshell, which then plugs into the tone arm.
2) P-mount - Primarily on Technics brand turntables
Four prongs at the rear of the cartridge plug directly into the end of tone arm. A single screw goes through the side of the cartridge at the rear in order to secure it to the tone arm.
In descending levels of sound quality, we have the following cartridges available for listening to LPs:
|Cartridge||Tracking Force||Mounting type|
|M92E||0.75-1.5 grams||standard & p-mount|
*The M78S is a monophonic cartridge for playing wide-groove / 78 RPM records.
The N78S replacement stylus will fit the M97xE and M92E, providing 78 RPM playback capability.
Note: Shure DJ cartridges are standard mount, but are not typically employed home hi-fi use.
