What is VOX operation on a two-way radio or ham radio? Can a Shure mic be used for VOX?
VOX is "voice-activated" operation. The radio operator only needs to speak; he does not need to press a switch on the microphone. The VOX electronic circuitry is in the radio - not in the microphone.
For VOX, the microphone is set to "always on" or a permanently "un-muted" condition. This can be as simple as moving the mic on/off switch to "ON", or locking the PTT (push-to-talk) switch to the "ON" position.
