UA820 ½ wave antenna that sags at the hinge point

FAQ #3744 Updated October 16, 2017

Question:

I have an out-of-warranty UA820 UHF 1/2 wave antenna that will no longer stand up straight. The hinge appears to have loosened. Besides buying a new antenna, is there a quick and cheap fix?

Answer:

Obtain a wire twist tie that is used to close a plastic garbage bag. Fold the twist tie in half. With the antenna bent at a 90 degree angle, insert the twist tie into the gap at the hinge.

The remainder of the twist tie can be wrapped around the base of the antenna or cut off.
