DFR11EQ Version Compatibility
The DFR11EQ Version 5 software is backward compatible with Version 4 and Version 3 hardware. However, you will not have the same level of functionality when using Version 5 software with previous versions of the DFR11EQ due to hardware upgrades that have been made. Version 4 and Version 3 hardware units cannot be upgraded to Version 5 hardware units. For further detail on software compatibility, please read the following items.
Version 5 Software Compatibility with Version 4 Hardware
- Limiter - There is no limiter available with Version 4 hardware. The limiter button in the main software control window will be shaded out.
- Delay - Version 4 is still limited to a maximum 100 milliseconds of delay, but the new control window that calculates delay from distance and temperature information will function with the Version 4 hardware.
- Feedback Filters - Version 5 detects and reduces feedback significantly faster than Version 4 because of upgraded hardware. Version 4 units will not detect feedback faster with the use of Version 5 software.
- On-board Scene Selection - There are no on-board scenes in Version 4, so the preset buttons will be shaded out in the software window.
- In addition, the DRS-10 Digital Remote Switch accessory will work only with Version 5 units.
- Global Scene Mode - Global scene mode will not work with Version 4 units.
- One-Touch Filter Conversion ("To PEQ" button) - One-touch filter conversion will work with Version 4 units. This feature alone is a good reason for Version 4 users to upgrade to the Version 5 software.
- Modem Access - This feature is fully compatible with Version 4 units.
Upgrading the Software
In order to upgrade software, simply download the Version 5 software and install it according to the instructions on the download page. The Version 5 software will not overwrite the Version 4 software on your computer - so both versions will be available until you delete one. Once the Version 5 software has been installed, open the Version 5 program, make sure your computer is connected to the Version 4 hardware unit (via RS-232 serial cable), and click on the Connect button on the Version 5 software interface. This will connect the Version 5 software to the Version 4 hardware unit.
Version 5 Software Compatibility with Version 3 Hardware
Many functions are not available when using Version 5 software with Version 3 hardware including:
- Limiter (no settings)
- Delay (no settings)
- Parametric EQ functionality (graphic EQ mode only)
- Cannot change individual feedback filter settings including frequency and depth (but can still change dynamic/fixed and high Q/low Q settings for all feedback filters together, just not each setting per filter)
- Output gain (located in EQ control window in later versions)
- Meters
Version 5 software will control graphic EQ, general feedback filter settings, mute, bypass, and modem accessibility on Version 3 units with the same parent/child control window architecture. Version 5 software will also give users the option to upgrade their Version 3 software to Version 4 software.
