Legendary Engineers To Judge Shure's Fantastic Scholastic 3
Studio Gurus Lend Their Ears To Annual Collegiate Recording Competition
NILES, IL, March 15, 2007 – Shure Incorporated has enlisted some esteemed assistance in judging this year’s entries in the Fantastic Scholastic Recording Competition, including: Chuck Ainlay, Steve Albini, Roy Thomas Baker, Mike Fraser, Ryan Hewitt, Andy Johns, George Massenburg, John McBride, Justin Niebank, and Trina Shoemaker. The judges for this year’s competition will utilize their studio expertise to select this year’s winner, which will be announced in May of this year.
Recording in the studio this year, were student teams representing American University, Appalachian State University, William Paterson University, University of Michigan, Indiana University, Berklee College of Music, Ohio University, University of Massachusetts-Lowell, Lebanon Valley College, and Shenandoah University. All entries for this year’s competition were due by February 9, 2007.
“We started to seek out our judges for this year’s competition almost immediately after the last one ended,” said Dave Mendez, Market Development Specialist, who coordinates the competition. “Luckily we have some friends in the industry, both old and new, who were more than willing to help us out once they heard more about the competition, and it seemed like the list of judges grew in numbers once word spread within the industry. The judges participating this year are very diverse, and hopefully that’s going to offer some of the most unique feedback we’ve ever had in this competition.”
The panel of judges is currently critiquing both the audio and studio journal entries for each of the ten schools in this year’s competition. Judges will utilize the following criteria when scoring this year’s entries: Clarity of Sound (30%), Microphone Technique (30%), Mixing Technique (30%), and Performance/Production (10%).
