Shure UHF-R makes the cut on Dancing With the Stars

 

LOS ANGELES, CA, December 4, 2007—Regular viewers of ABC's Dancing With the Stars received more than they have come to expect during the hit show's fifth season, as the weekly battle between celebrities on the dance floor wound down to its finale last week. Vying for top honors in the competition, the largest cast of contestants ever included an Emmy Award-winning actress, a Vegas icon, daytime soap star, and a Spice Girl, but it was Indy 500 champion Helio Castroneves and partner Julianne Hough that cha-chaed, tangoed, and jived their way to the title on Tuesday, November 25th. 

 

As in the past, wireless systems continue to play a critical role in the audio production of Dancing With the Stars: This season's cable-free blueprint was designed by Burbank, CA-based Soundtronics Wireless, with a wide-ranging array of lavalier and handheld transmitters given a place in the limelight along with the show's hosts, dance contestants, and guest performers. Used for the performance segments, Shure's UHF-R wireless was chosen based upon both its sonic quality and reliability.

 

"It's up to the artists to give this show its audio personality and depth, and they know precisely what they're after," says Soundtronics' Dave Bellamy. "Shure's UHF-R is the tool that helps them create, it's the mic of request. I've never heard any complaints about it."

 

For Bellamy, part of the show's challenge centers around dealing with the sheer number of microphones it requires. "The A2s are handling a lot of microphones, as well as a lot of talent," he adds. "Oftentimes there is as little as five minutes available to mic an artist and do a sound check, then they're onstage. These are critical moments, and the UHF-R systems have yet to let us down. They perform great, have excellent sensitivity, and everyone feels very comfortable with them."

 

Sound for Dancing With the Stars is mixed by Evan Adelman. Hosted by Tom Bergeron (America's Funniest Home Videos) and Samantha Harris (E! Entertainment), the show challenges its celebrity contestants to perform choreographed dance routines judged by Len Goodman and dancer/choreographers Bruno Tonioli and Carri Ann Inaba. Conrad Green serves as the show's executive producer, Alex Rudzinski directs.
