Shure Recording Competition Opens To Audio Engineering Students
Drawing Follows To Pick Entrants For Annual "Fantastic Scholastic" Challenge
NILES, IL, October 6, 2006—Open to university and college students nationwide, the registration process for Shure Incorporated's annual "Fantastic Scholastic" Recording Competition officially opened on September 12, 2006 at 12:00 P.M. CST and will remain open until 11:59 P.M. CST on Friday, October 20th. A random drawing on October 24th, 2006 will then determine the 10 competing schools, each of which will receive a standardized "mic locker" from Shure that must be utilized to complete every recording project submitted.
The names of registrants chosen as contestants in the random drawing will be posted on Shure's website on October 30, 2006. Dedicated mic lockers will be sent out the same day, and the competing schools will have until February 9, 2007 to submit their completed projects. The announcement of the Grand Prize winner will take place on May 4, 2007.
Competing teams from each school are required to track and mix an entire song, which will then be judged by a panel of industry professionals who will evaluate the recordings based upon their overall fidelity, clarity, sonic balance, and creativity in selection and placement of the microphones.
In May, Shure announced that a five-member team from the University of Memphis in Tennessee won last year’s "Fantastic Scholastic" competition.
"We are really excited to see continued interest in this contest from the schools and students,” said Dave Mendez, Market Development Specialist, who coordinates the competition. “The level of competition and professionalism during last year’s contest was extremely impressive, and we hope to see more of that this year.”
