Big Night For Shure Endorsers at 47th Annual GRAMMY Awards
Black-Eyed Peas, Maroon 5 Help Kick Off Music Industry's Biggest Awards Show
The Black-Eyed Peas, helped "get it started" at this year's 47th Annual Grammyâ Awards show with fellow Shure endorsers and Best New Artist award winners, Maroon 5. The Black-Eyed Peas performed "Let's Get it Started," which won the GRAMMY for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group, using Shure U2/58 microphone systems, while Maroon 5 opted for U2/Beta 58 systems to sing their hit, "This Love."
"This year was an incredible showcase of talent across every genre of music from hip-hop to country to rock," said Shure artist relations team member Ryan Smith. "Bono said it was the best GRAMMYS ever and I would agree."
Several other Shure endorsers walked away with GRAMMY awards on Sunday night, including:
- John Mayer, who won Song of the Year and Best Male Pop Vocal Performance for the song "Daughters" from his album "Heavier Things"
- Ozomatli received the Best Latin Rock/Alternative Album award for "Street Signs"
- Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder won Best Bluegrass Album for their album "Brand New Strings"
- Velvet Revolver was awarded Best Hard Rock Performance for "Slither" from their debut album, "Contraband"
"It was also a pretty emotional show given the many GRAMMY wins for the late, great Ray Charles," added Smith. "What a fantastic tribute to his music. The duet with Jamie Foxx and Alicia Keys was simply amazing."
Foxx and Keys sang "Georgia on My Mind" in tribute to the legendary Charles, who posthumously won eight awards on Sunday night. Both performers used U2/58 microphone systems for the duet.
Overall, Shure wired and wireless microphones were used during 18 of the evening's 24 performances by several artists, including James Brown, Green Day, Queen Latifah, Bonnie Raitt, Mavis Staples, U2, Keith Urban, Usher and Kanye West.
"It was wonderful to see so many of our endorsing artists receive nominations this year," added Smith. "We congratulate all of them on these honors."
Other Shure endorsing artists nominated for GRAMMY awards included The Crystal Method (Best Electronic/Dance Album), Nickelback (Best Hard Rock Performance), Alison Krauss & Union Station (Best Female Country Vocal Performance, Best Country Collaboration With Vocals), Martina McBride (Best Female Country Vocal Performance), The Crabb Family (Best Southern, Country or Bluegrass Gospel Album), Juanes (Best Latin Rock/Alternative Album), and Patty Griffin (Best Contemporary Folk Album).
