Shure Endorsers Shine at Latin GRAMMY® Awards
Alejandro Sanz Wins Four Awards; Ozomatli Performance Puts Shure in the Spotlight
Internationally renowned Spanish singer-songwriter and Shure endorser Alejandro Sanz dominated at this year's 5th Annual Latin GRAMMY® Awards at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. Sanz won in four categories, including the top honor of Album of the Year for his critically acclaimed "No Es Lo Mismo," which blends his signature flamenco style Latin pop with bossa nova, blues, jazz and even disco. He also won the coveted Record of the Year and Song of the Year awards for the title track to the album, and for Best Male Pop Vocal Album. The album was also awarded Best Engineered Album of the Year.
In addition, with their funkified fusion of salsa and jazz with urban beats and other diverse musical styles, Los Angeles-based ten-piece and recently signed Shure endorsers Ozomatli performed "Esa Morena" from their album Coming Up, which was nominated for Best Alternative Music Album.
"We've been using Shure mics since we played our first show together almost ten years ago, so it's really great for us to finally have an official relationship with them," said Wil Dog, Ozomatli's bass player.
For their performance, Ozomatli used a variety of Shure microphones including SM58s for lead and backing vocals. In addition, for their percussion microphone needs, the band used SM57s for snares, a Beta52 for kick, KSM137s for hi-hat and overheads, Beta56s for toms and congas, and SM57s for timbales. They also used a U14D on bass and U14D/98 on horns.
"What a great showcase for us and for our endorsers," said Tom Krajecki, Shure's Artist Relations Manager. "It was great to see Alejandro win four well-deserved awards and we're really excited to have Ozomatli join our roster. We extend our congratulations to all of them for their GRAMMY wins and nominations."
In addition, Shure provided 60 of its KSM32s to the award show's production staff for use on drum and percussion overheads and guitar amps.
